The movie begins with a scene from 1879 where Virgil Earp is being forcefully ejected from a train car by four men while his wife Allie looks on helplessly. The men throw Virgil onto the tracks where he narrowly avoids being hit by an oncoming train before being rescued by Allie who berates him for getting them kicked off the train yet again due to his violent temper. Next we see Wyatt Earp arriving in Dodge City where he gets into a fight with some cowboys who are harassing two women. One of the women tells Wyatt that he should become a lawman like his brothers Virgil and Morgan who are both sheriffs in different parts of Arizona Territory
