Who could have thought that a movie about an elf would be so charming, heartwarming, and just plain fun? “Elf” is all of those things and more.
Will Ferrell stars as Buddy, a human who has been raised at the North Pole by elves. When Buddy learns that he is not really an elf, he sets off for New York City in search of his father (played by James Caan). While in the city, Buddy brings his own special brand of holiday cheer to everyone he meets – with hilarious results.
The cast also includes Zooey Deschanel as Jovie, Buddy’s love interest; Bob Newhart as Papa Elf; Edward Asner as Santa; and Peter Dinklage as Miles Finch, a successful businessman who initially seems like the polar opposite of Buddy but ultimately forms a bond with him.
Ferrell is perfectly cast as Buddy – he’s funny without being annoying and you can’t help but root for him throughout the film. The supporting cast is also excellent, with Deschanel providing the perfect foil for Ferrell’s zany antics and Newhart stealing every scene he’s in as Papa Elf.
